The Goad’s Fire Insurance Atlas from 1907 shows partial ravines crossing Fourteenth Street near the intersection of Fifth Avenue. The area around here often has surface water, and is overgrown with bullrushes. This type of environment can indicate the presence of underground water, which could have once been a stream.
