1960 photograph shows the Sapperton area and also a section of houses on the Surrey side.

The neighbourhood of Sapperton was named after the Royal Engineers, or Sappers, who built their camp nearby.

A plate from the 1907 Goads Fire Insurance Atlas shows a long ravine running from Nelson to Richmond Street, which is also depicted in the 1913 atlas. This location overlaps with a historic soda factory and brewery, which was said to have access to fresh running spring water.
